SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Nearly 4,000 customers lost power due to a brush fire in Suffolk Tuesday morning.

Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk said emergency crews received a call for a brush fire around 6 a.m. There, they found a transformer fire in the 1400 block of Bridge Road, also known as Route 17, with a power pole fully engulfed. Sparks from that fire caused a small brush fire.

Around 6:40 a.m., the pole “automatically de-energized as it is designed to do to isolate the problem,” Bonita Harris with Dominion Virginia Power told WAVY.com. That caused an outage for about 3,900 customers in Suffolk and Isle of Wight County.

Power was restored to all by 7:30 a.m.

No injuries were reported.
