Bicyclist struck by dump truck’s mirror

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – The driver of a dump truck was charged after a bicyclist was struck on High Street in Portsmouth Tuesday morning.

Det. Misty Holley with the Portsmouth Police Department told WAVY.com the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of High Street and Carney Farm Lane.

The bicyclist was riding his bicycle eastbound on High Street when he was struck by the side-view mirror of a dump truck that was trying to go around him. He was transported to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the dump truck was issued a summons for improper passing. His identity was not released.
