NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A Newport News woman died early Sunday morning following a hit and run crash at the Monitor Merrimac Bridge-Tunnel.

According to a Virginia State Police spokeswoman, a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling north on Interstate 664, south of Terminal Avenue, just after midnight when it swerved into the right lane to avoid slowing traffic. When the SUV swerved it struck a motorcycle ridden by 24-year-old Taeisha Shanee Wilson of Newport News.

The collision threw Wilson from the motorcycle, and she died as a result of the crash.

Jennifer Walker, 33, of Hampton was driving the Tahoe and left the scene of the accident. Investigators located her during the investigation and brought her back to the scene.

Troopers said Wilson was wearing an approved helmet and alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

Walker faces charges after the Commonwealth’s Attorney reviews the evidence gathered at the crash.
