Sand soccer brings in big bucks, international pros

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – It’s an event so big year in and year-out, it’s executive director says they’re already prepping for 2015. The North American Sand Soccer Championships wrapped up at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront on Sunday afternoon.

The event raised over $2 million, all of which will go to the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex at Princess Anne. Even after 21 years, the tournament attracts over 1,000 teams, over 10,000 players, and professional teams from all over the world.

Canada captured the professional North American Championship with a thrilling 3-2 win over Portugal.
