Fire scorches more than 50 acres in NC Wildlife Refuge

DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) – Crews worked to contain a fire in the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge in Dare County.

A Forest Service employee first spotted the flames Friday afternoon.

A plane dropped water on the wildfire, while other crews cut a containment line.

The flames scorched between 50 and 60 acres.

Crews will continue to monitor the fire to make sure it stays within containment lines.
