NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Days after a swimming advisory was lifted for Hilton Beach, officials have issued another one.
Bacteria levels in the water exceed the State Water Quality Standards. Signs have been posted at the beach.
“We encourage the public to protect their health by complying with this advisory,” said Dr. Nzinga Teule-Hekima, Director of the Peninsula Health District. “Typically, an advisory of this nature is temporary and will be withdrawn once the bacteria levels have returned to a safe level.”
A swimming advisory was issued in May and lifted June 2 for the same beach.
