Shooting puts school on lockdown

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Norfolk Police are investigating a shooting near a high school.

Officer Daniel Hudson with the Norfolk Police Department officers received a report of a gunshot victim around 11:45 a.m. in the 2400 block of Princess Anne Road.

On scene, they found one male subject suffering from a gunshot wound. Hudson said he was conscious and alert at the scene, but was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries. Police say he is now in critical, but stable condition.

School officials at Booker T. Washington High School told the school was on lockdown because of the incident. Around 12:40 p.m., Elizabeth Mather with Norfolk Public Schools told the lockdown was lifted around 12:30 p.m.

It is unknown at this time if the victim is a juvenile or an adult. Stay with for more on this developing story.
