NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – TSA officers discovered a loaded gun in a carry-on bag at a Norfolk International Airport (ORF) checkpoint Sunday.

Police cited a Yorktown man for having the gun.

The TSA officer detected the 9mm handgun as the bag passed through the X-ray machine. Norfolk Airport Authority Police responded to the checkpoint, confiscated the weapon and cited the man. The gun was loaded with six rounds of ammunition.

Firearms and ammunition are not permitted in carry-on bags but can be transported in checked bags if they are unloaded and declared to the airline.
