NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Don’t recognize the name? Watch the film “A League of Their Own,” and it should clear things up. Dolly Konwinski is a former second and third baseman who played for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which was depicted in the 1992 film starring Tom Hanks.
Konwinski, who’s from Chicago, started playing for the Chicago Colleens in 1948, then moved to the Springfield Sallies in 1949, then enjoyed the next three seasons with the Grand Rapids Chicks before ending her career with the Battle Creek Belles. And yes, she did have a small role in the film.
Aside from signing autographs and posing for pictures, she threw out the first pitch for the Norfolk Tides on Sunday and will be speaking at the Norfolk Sports Club on Monday.
