HERTFORD, N.C. (WAVY) – Two brothers charged in the decade-long sexual abuse of a girl known to them have had their charges changed, according to the sheriff.

Perquimans County Sheriff Eric Tilley told WAVY.com Aaron and Benjamin Jackson, both 19, are now charged with second degree sexual offense. Benjamin Jackson is also charged with second degree rape.

They are among six bothers and their parents charged in connection to the sexual abuse of a girl beginning when she was 4 years old until she was about 15.

Both brothers were originally charged with five counts of statutory rape, but Tilley said that was incorrect. The problem was due to a clerical error, Tilley said, and the charges didn’t fit the boys’ age.

For the statutory rape charge, the ages had to be five years apart and the victim had to be under a certain age.

Tilley told WAVY.com the District Attorney called him last week and said the statutory rape charges would be dismissed and warrants for the new charges would be served on the brothers.
