Officer shoots pit bull in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Hampton Police shot a pit bull during an attack on another dog Saturday afternoon.

Cpl. Mary Shackelford with the Hampton Police Division said officers were called to the 2600 block of East Winona Driver around 4:25 p.m. for a report of a vicious animal. There, they found two pit bulls attacking a small Terrier mix.

When officers tried to intervene, one of the pit bulls aggressively charged at an officer, Shackelford said. The officer shot the dog.

Shackelford said both pit bulls were taken to a local hospital for treatment.Shackelford told WAVY.com Monday the pit bull did pass away. Its owner was charged with no city license and dog at large while attacking, both summonses.

The Terrier mix was pronounced dead from its injuries.
