Ocean Lakes wraps up historic season, eyes playoff run

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The first ever season of the Coastal Conference is over, and the team left standing at the top is not quite the one most expected.

“(We) didn’t expect to get here because our conference is really tough,” said Don Hart, who’s coached the varsity squad for the last 10 years. The Dolphins, playing in the same conference as perennial favorites Landstown, First Colonial and Cox High School, took home the regular season conference crown with a record of 12-2-1 and a 6-0-1 mark in the conference.

It’s the firs time a boys soccer team has won a title of any kind in school history.

“Best feeling ever,” said senior goal keep Dylan Carroll, “Especially with these boys, great group of boys,”

The strength of the Dolphins is there defense, which only allowed 4 goals through the entire conference schedule. But another strength is their unity.”It’s pretty much a brother-hood through us, and soccer is pretty much our second concern,” said Carroll, “Family is the first.”

Funny, the Dolphins are also first; that is, the no. 1 seed heading into next week’s region tournament. It’s a position Hart is not used to, but very much welcomes.

“Now we’re at that point and we go in as the top team. So we want to keep it that way,” said Hart.
