ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — A dating ad on Craigslist led police in Elizabeth City to arrest two suspects in a drug conspiracy.
Captain John Young with the Elizabeth City Police Department said an officer discovered and responded to a dating ad titled “Who wants kush?” The suspect arranged to bring 1.5 ounces of marijuana down from Virginia to sell to the officer, who was messaging him undercover.
The suspect said he would arrive in an hour in a white Nissan Altima. So, the officer got $320 of marked cash from the Narcotics Unit and went to the meeting place, the BP station at the intersection of US 17 and Halstead Boulevard.
At 12:20 a.m., the Altima arrived. The officer walked over to the car, delivered the cash and received a plastic, see-through container with what appeared to be marijuana.
As the officer walked away, awaiting police units converged on the Altima and arrested 17-year-old Thomas Keith Adams and 23-year-old Keith Vernard Lowe, both of Norfolk.
Police also seized a makeshift bong and a plastic tote containing marijuana and another unknown, green leafy substance.
Adams was charged with possession of marijuana up to 0.5 ounces, sale and delivery of counterfeit controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and simple possession of schedule II controlled substance. Lowe was charged with felony conspiracy.
