Women, child escape masked man through window

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Newport News Police are investigating a report of a masked man pretending to be a police officer Tuesday night.

Ryan Kashin with the Newport News Police Department told WAVY.com officers received a call around 10 p.m. for a report of a man with a gun in the 300 block of Hickory Point Boulevard.

Upon arrival, a 20-year-old woman and a 23-year-old woman told police they heard an unknown male was claiming to be a police officer and ordered the 23-year-old victim to come outside with her hands up. The victim complied, and found a man holding a handgun and wearing a ski-type mask.

Immediately, the victim ran back inside the home, grabbed her 5-year-old son and ran into the room of the 20-year-old victim. All three left the home through a window and had a neighbor call police.

Kashin said no suspects were found in the area. The suspect was described as a black male with a thin build standing 6’ and weighing about 150 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans, black long-sleeved t-shirt and a black ski-mask at the time of the incident.

The suspect made no other demands and no property was taken.
