CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A Chesapeake man called 10 On Your Side after he found a baby alligator in his yard Wednesday.
The homeowner found the two-foot alligator in a storm drain off Erin Lane in the Deep Creek section of the city. He said he enticed it into a bucket with tuna and then called animal control.
Lt. Naff with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries told WAVY.com the reptile is an American alligator, but it’s very unlikely to be wild. He said officials with the department feel strongly it is an isolated incident, that the alligator was someone’s pet and either escaped or was released.
Animal Control has the gator and Game and Inland Fisheries biologists are making arrangements to pick it up.
