VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a suspicious device reported in Virginia Beach Wednesday evening was a total accident.

Amy Valdez with the Virginia Beach Fire Department said someone discarded a canvass bag in a dumpster near a building in the 300 block of 25th Street. Inside were training props for a military unit, and when someone came across the bag and found pipes with caps on the end, it was reported around 7:30 p.m.

As a precaution, a perimeter was set up and residents in the immediate vicinity were notified.

Tonya Borman with the VBPD said the device was determined to be safe and the investigation was handed over to the Virginia Beach Fire Department. Valdez said absolutely nothing explosive was found.

No further information has been released.
