ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. (WAVY) — Deputies in Isle of Wight are investigating the theft of more than $45,000 worth of commercial-grade mowers.
Around 2 p.m. Monday, the owner of Walters Outdoor Power Equipment, Hubert Herrala, drove past a storage area near the business where he kept equipment. He didn’t notice anything wrong, but on Tuesday morning, he discovered eight commercial-grade zero-turn mowers were stolen.
Herrala called the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office. He and the responding deputy found the fence surrounding the property had been cut where suspects gained access.
Surveillance video shows what looked like a dark-colored Dodge pickup truck pulling a trailer with a lawn mower on it. A witness told the sheriff’s office a suspicious truck was in the nearby cemetery at about 5:20 a.m. Tuesday.
Walters Outdoor Power Equipment is located on Walters Highway in Isle of Wight County.
A similar larceny in Wakefield was reported to the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office less than 48 hours before this one. Six mowers were stolen from James River Equipment. Currently, investigators do not know if the two larcenies are connected.
