Man suffers neck injury in shooting

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Portsmouth Police are searching for suspects after a man was shot early Wednesday morning.

Det. Misty Holley with the Portsmouth Police Department said the shooting happened around 12:45 a.m. Officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of Mascott Street for a report of a gunshot victim and upon arrival found a man with an injury to his neck.

Holley said the injury was consistent with being shot in the neck.

The victim was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment. According to police, the victim was conscious and breathing at the time. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.

There is no suspect description at this time, but police say a dark vehicle was seen leaving the area right after the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
