PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Crews are outside a housing complex Wednesday investigating a bomb threat received the day before.

Chief Mike Stockton with the Portsmouth Fire Department told WAVY.com the threat was made via voicemail. The call came into the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday about a bomb threat at the Dale Homes rental office.

The messages weren’t checked until Wednesday and crews were called to the scene to investigate. Lincoln Street and Nashville Avenue were blocked and crews with both the fire department and Virginia State Police were sweeping the rental office.

Residents were reported to be going in and out of their homes during the incident and crews were focusing on the rental office.
