NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A 19-year-old man is accused of inappropriately touching three boys and offering one ice cream to do it again.
Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department told WAVY.com officers were dispatched to the Cedar Hill Apartments, in 300 block of Hilltop Drive, around 7 p.m. Monday. There, they met with an 8-year-old boy and a 10-year-old boy.
The boys told police the suspect touched them inappropriately. One victim said the suspect said he would buy him ice cream if he let the suspect touch him again. Neighbors witnessed the incident and after interviewing all involved, police took Michael Bailey of Suffolk into custody.
Many neighbors told WAVY.com Tuesday they were relieved a suspect was quickly identified and arrested.
“That’s horrible,” said Joann Haley, who lives in the neighborhood. “As a parent, I would be terrified.”
Bailey does not live in the apartment complex, according to police, and neighbors said they weren’t sure what he was doing in the area Monday evening. While they’re worried about the potential threat to their children, parents like Haley said they keep their kids under strict supervision.
“I don’t worry about my son because he is always in my eyesight,” Haley said. “I don’t let him run around. He doesn’t do anything without me standing right next to him.”
Bailey is charged with aggravated sexual battery.
Wednesday morning, McPherson said the investigation produced a third victim in the case. Bailey will face additional charges in relation to the incident.
