Police: VB man took girl, 12, he met online to Pa. hotel

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A Virginia Beach man was arrested in Manheim Township, Pa. for meeting up with a 12-year-old he met online.

Police say 30-year-old Nelson Hercules drove to Pennsylvania to have sex with the girl. The child’s mother called police to report her daughter got into a car with an unknown man. Officers found the car, the girl and Hercules in a nearby hotel room.

Hercules lives in the Lake Edward neighborhood on Caxton Court. Many neighbors recognize him and have interacted with him but admit, they don’t know him well.

“In retrospect, it’s astonishing,” said Kelly O’Toole, who lives next door to the suspect.

O’Toole and Josh DeGraff, who also lives next door, said they recently spoke to Hercules about his new relationship.

“He was just mentioning how he met a girl on some gaming site,” said DeGraff. “A computer game, I think. And he would eventually go up and go camping with her.”

Police say Hercules admitted he had been talking with the girl through a chat room and via text message. He also told police he knew the girl was 12 years old and he had traveled to Lancaster to have sex with her.

“It’s a shame to know that you have someone like this on your street,” said Patricia Spencer, who also lives nearby.

Spencer said she took the story to heart considering she is a grandmother and can’t imagine her granddaughter being in the same situation.

“My prayers go out to the little girl’s family,” she said.

Police said the 12-year-old wasn’t injured. Hercules is being held in Lancaster County Prison. He’s charged with Attempted Rape of a Child, Unlawful Contact with a Minor, Indecent Assault, Interference with the Custody of a Minor, Kidnapping of a Minor, Corruption of a Minor, and Crime Use of a Communication Facility.
