NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A 33-year-old man will spend the next 30 years behind bars for his role in a shootout in Hampton back in 2011.
The shooting happened two days after Christmas during a planned drug deal. The defendant, Ryan Fultz, was at the deal in the Wal-Mart parking lot to provide backup to a dealer, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. An altercation ensued, and Fultz participated in a shootout with two other people.
Fultz’ weapon was an AR-15 high-powered rifle. More than 30 shots were exchanged.
Fultz was convicted Feb. 7 by a jury on charges of possessing and discharging a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and felon in possession of a firearm.
He was sentenced Friday to 30 years total in prison.
