NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A swimming advisory issued last week for Hilton Beach in Newport News has been lifted.
According to a news release from the Peninsula Health District, the advisory stemmed from samples collected on May 20 and May 21 that showed bacteria levels exceeding the State Water Quality Standards.
The District said a sign was posted at Hilton Beach to let visitors know about the advisory. It read: “Warning swimmers – bacteria levels do not meet state water quality standards, swimming not advised until further notice.”
The advisory was lifted June 2.
