VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Thursday kicked off the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics of Virginia, and 10 On Your Side was there.
Organizers lit the Flame of Hope at Virginia Beach’s Town Center in the afternoon. The ceremony commemorated the countdown to the Special Olympics Summer Games, which will be held in Richmond next month.
More than 100 law enforcement officers from Hampton Roads and across Virginia have supported the games for almost 30 years. And, in that time, they have raised $15 million, logged thousands of miles of support, and last year the worldwide efforts of law enforcement raised more than $45 million.
The games in Richmond are on June 6 and 7. Athletes from all over the state participate in a number of events.
