Commemorative Memorial Day Events:
Colonial Williamsburg is hosting a free commemorative event on May 26th:
Gather for a modern service honoring military veterans who died while serving their country. A procession with Fife and Drum support will proceed from the Palace to Bruton Parish Church and the French gravesite. Wreaths will be laid, prayers given, and volleys fired at each stop to honor soldiers of the American Revolution and Civil War interred nearby.
Time: 10-11 a.m.
Location: Various sites in the Revolutionary City
Includes the posting of colors, historical re-enactors, a guest speaker, the placing of flowers, and the presentation of awards to student winners of the “York County Remembers” Poster Essay Contest. Hosted by the York County Historical Committee. Free. Call 757-890-3500.

Hooters is offering 10 free wings with the purchase of a drink on memorial day to retired and active duty military personnel AND their spouses, which is fantastic.

Concerts are being held from 8 p.m. – 10:45 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at three different locations along the oceanfront:
- 17th Street: Friday – Rare Mixx; Saturday – Nature’s Child; Sunday – The River Boyz
- 24th Street: Friday – TRADOC Concert Band; Saturday – Jesse Chong Band; Sunday – Seth Stainback & Roosterfoot
- 31st Street: Friday – The Fuzz Band; Saturday – DEJA; Sunday – The Deloreans
Probably the best part about this weekend salute? Their Heroes Walk:
The “Heroes Walk” display stretches along the boardwalk from 17th to 31st streets. Original essays written by local high school students are reproduced on four by eight foot banners easily read by passers-by. These essays describe the military conflicts in which the United States has been involved throughout history. They help to remind us of the price that has been paid and is still being paid today by our United States military.
A Portsmouth tradition since 1884, this year’s parade boasts floats, marching bands and the Naval Shipyards Commander as the Grand Marshal. The festivities start at 11 a.m. off of High and Crawford streets.

These events are free and happening throughout the summer, so if you can’t make it this weekend, you should look at the upcoming dates and join in on the family fun!
31st Annual Pungo Strawberry Festival
Rides, strawberry picking and finish off with a pie eating contest. What more could you ask for in a family outing? Admission to the festival is free, however, parking and entertainment associated with the festival have costs.

Virginia Arts Festival presents a Memorial Day Concert with the United States Air Force Heritage of America Band. Raise the flag, raise your spirits and celebrate this proud holiday at City Center. Come out early and enjoy patriotic performances and pay your respects. Then grab some delicious food and picnic on the lawn to hear the best music played by an extraordinary ensemble of musicians!
