NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Investigators are looking for leads about a shooting outside a Newport News apartment complex Saturday morning.

Around 9:45 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Colony Road and Colony Square Court for a report of gun shots, according to Harold Eley with Newport News police.

The person who called 911 also reported a black man wearing a black shirt and red shorts. He was said to have run into a residence at Colony Square Apartments.

When officers arrived they spoke to a man matching that description in front of the apartment complex. While they were interviewing him, a resident told police his wife and four children were in an apartment with him when a bullet came through their wall.

Officers collected the bullet and found three additional casings on the ground near the apartment.

No one was injured.

Witnesses said they saw a black man driving a grey Ford Explorer at the corner of Colony and Colony Square. They said he fired several rounds towards Colony Square, then made a U-turn in the area of Colony and Aqueduct and left the area, traveling toward Warwick Boulevard.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
