VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A moped rider was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in Virginia Beach over the weekend.

MPO Tonya Borman with the Virginia Beach Police Department told WAVY.com officers were called to the 1600 block of London Bridge Road around 2:30 p.m. Sunday for a report of a hit-and-run.

They learned the victim was riding a 2013 Peace Sport moped in the westbound lanes when the moped was rear-ended by an unknown vehicle. The moped accelerated quickly and entered the eastbound lanes.

Borman said the victim was able to get control and go back into the westbound lanes, but because of the speed, lost control against and crash in the dirt shoulder.

The vehicle that struck the moped fled the scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and was listed in serious condition.
