Fuel experiment causes explosion in VB

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Fire officials say a man received second-degree burns during an explosion in Virginia Beach Tuesday evening.

Chief Jack Crandell with the Virginia Beach Fire Department confirmed a small explosion in the 400 block of Old Gate Muse. The cause is currently unknown. Fire investigators and police are working together to try and piece together what happened.

One person was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with burns to his arms and hands, but they are not considered life-threatening injuries.

Crandell told WAVY.com the man makes model rockets as a hobby and was experimenting with making fuel when the fuel ignited.

There was no damage to any buildings or any other people.

No charges will be placed.
