VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a lap dog and his owner have been reunited after a woman stole the dog during a date.

According to James Cason with the Virginia Beach Police Department, the victim said he met the woman via an online dating app. They met at his residence on Derby Wharf Drive between 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday.

During the visit, the woman went to her vehicle to get her iPad, but the victim quickly realized she was leaving. Then he noticed his Pomeranian, LaLa, was missing.

A Virginia Beach detective and animal control officers located the dog in the 1300 block of Waycroft Reach in Chesapeake on Tuesday, Cason said. It was returned to the victim.

Cason said the suspect was driving a burgundy Chevy Malibu and is believed to have ties to Portsmouth and possibly Williamsburg.

The incident is still under investigation — if you recognize the suspect in the photo please call Virginia Beach Police or the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
