Spartans stay alive in MEAC tourney with win over Florida A&M

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A freshman third baseman stepped up while a junior pitcher turned in an upper-class effort, and the Norfolk State baseball team yet again gets to see another day. The Spartans followed up a 10-1 win over North Carolina Central Saturday morning with a 6-3 victory over Florida A&M the same afternoon, and fended off elimination in the MEAC tournament.

Justin Burrell- the freshman- went 2 for 4 at the plate with 3 runs batted in, while Josh Vales- the junior- gave up just one earned run on five hits and struck out 12 in 7 and 2/3 innings of work. NSU will take the field on Sunday at 5:00 pm against the winner of Savannah State and Bethune-Cookman, which will start at 1:00 pm.
