Victim identified in Chesapeake crash

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – One person is dead after a crash in Chesapeake Sunday, and police say it may be related to a medical issue.

Officer Ravi Sheth with the Chesapeake Police Department said the vehicle crashed into a tree at the intersection of South Battlefield Boulevard and St. Brides Road around 12:56 p.m.

Sheth said the driver, 59-year-old David Melick of Chesapeake, was killed, and it is unknown if the man’s death was caused by the crash or a medical issue.

There were four other people in the car. All were transported to local hospitals, where three remain.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
