Police seeking NN man in connection to deadly shooting

HAMPTON, Va.(WAVY) – Hampton Police are looking for a 25-year-old Newport News man in connection to a deadly shooting Saturday in Hampton.

28-year-old Jonathan Bradley Coles was found shot to death inside a home.

Around 5:29 a.m., officers patrolling on Dogwood Street were flagged down by a person who told them there had been a shooting in the area of Newport News Avenue and Shell Road.

Police responded to the scene and discovered evidence of a shooting. The investigation led officers to a home on Newport News Avenue, where they found a Coles, who had been killed by a single gunshot wound to the upper torso.

Investigators said 25-year-old Kwaume Laray Edwards is wanted in connection to the incident on homicide and use of a firearm in commission of a felony charges. Police said Edwards is considered armed and dangerous.

Saturday evening, Coles’ family and friends gathered outside the house where he was found dead. They held a candlelight memorial for Coles, saying he was a dedicated son and father.

Coles’ step-father, John Eaddy, said the biggest thing their family wants is for the suspect to be  arrested.

“Until we get this senseless stuff off the streets and these criminals caught and put away, I won’t rest,” said Eaddy.
