VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The body of the driver whose tractor-trailer went off the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel was recovered by divers Saturday morning.

A spokesman for Crofton Diving, who was handling the recovery effort, said the body was recovered Saturday morning and handed over to a police boat that was on the scene.

A family friend told WAVY News 10 the victim was 45-year-old Daawuud Hakim of Chesapeake.

Bridge officials say the truck was carrying wooden sticks used to hold up tomato plants. The Crofton Diving spokesman said the dive team will attempt to recover the tractor-trailer Sunday.
