NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Newport News Police arrested a man wanted in connection to a double shooting on Jefferson Avenue earlier this month that left one woman dead and another injured.
According to a police spokesman, investigators arrested Jason Robles, 31, of Newport News Friday night without incident in the 15200 block of Warwick Boulevard.
Police charged Robles with murder, malicious wounding, shooting into an occupied dwelling, robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, four counts of abduction and seven counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
Robles had a hearing in the case Monday morning. He is also charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, driving under suspension, improper u-turn and failure to appear.
Investigators said Jason Robles and two other men forced their way into a home in the 2200 block of Jefferson Avenue in the early hours of the morning on May 10. During the altercation that followed, one woman was shot in the head and killed while a second woman was shot in the arm.
Four children and two men who were also in the home escaped unharmed.
Newport News Police will not release the name of the woman who was killed.
A spokesman for the police department said the investigation is ongoing it is unclear what role the other two men who forced their way into the home had in the shooting.
