ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Fire crews in Accomack County battled a blazing tractor-trailer Friday evening.

Onley Fire Chief Bill Ferguson said once crews arrived, they were able to quickly extinguish the fully-involved truck cab fire, despite the fuel tank having ruptured. Firefighters were also able to protect the fully loaded grain trailer, owned by Perdue Farms.

Ferguson said an Eastern Shore HazMat team handled an oil and diesel fuel spill caused by the fire.

Bloxom Fire Chief Jody Bagwell said the fire happened on Lankford Highway. Around 7 p.m., she said the fire was active, but that there were no reports of injuries.

A witness told WAVY.com the scene was near Nandua High School on the Eastern Shore.

Ferguson said crews from the Onley, Tasley and Melfa volunteer fire companies handled the fire.
