Job fair put on for military job seekers

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A job fair was held for veterans, active duty service members, and their families in Norfolk Thursday.

Representatives from local and national companies were on hand at Norfolk’s Half Moone Cruise And Celebration Center. Organizers said many getting out of the service need some help finding their next career, and the job fair was a chance for military members to meet face-to-face with veteran friendly employers.

“These are men and women with great skills and great intangibles that they can bring to the work force. The challenge they have is knowing where to go,” said John Lundberg, Recruit Military Director of Event Operations. “What we try to do is provide a direction for them and try to bridge that gap because they’re starting all over again, and we want to point them in the right direction.”

Applicants were able to use the Military Skills Translator Tool, which matches military skills with positions that may be a good fit.

Recruit-Military, the Home Depot and DeVry University sponsored Thursday’s job fair.
