VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A woman born when Teddy Roosevelt was president celebrated her birthday in Virginia Beach Wednesday.

Surrounded by family and friends, Iris Branch turned 111 at the Westminster Canterbury on the Bay retirement community.

Branch has been a Virginia Beach resident her whole life and ran the Lynn-Dee Motel on Atlantic Avenue –which is now the Days Inn — with her husband for many years.

While she has outlived all 17 of her siblings and two of her three children, Branch has four grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

There are only 73 people in the world older than 110, according to Joel Rubin with Rubin Communications Group.
