JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Police say two students at Warhill High School were taken into custody Wednesday after a social media post caused conflict.

An 18-year-old male student posted a racially charged post on Instagram Tuesday afternoon, and a number of other students “liked” it. Somehow, a school resource officer learned of the post and requested three other officers respond to the school during the lunch period as a precaution, according to Steve Rubino with James City County Police.

Around 1 p.m., a couple students chased a student in the school who “liked” the post. There was no fight because staff members intervened and broke up the chase.

Rubino said two 16-year-old students were taken into custody and the police department is seeking petitions for both for disorderly conduct.

The post is being investigated and the results will be turned over to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office to determine if the 18-year-old will face charges.
