Student charged with making threat

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A 16-year-old boy is facing a charge of threatening to kill a school staff member following an incident Tuesday morning.

Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department told WAVY.com an officer working extra duty at New Horizons Regional Education Center in the 13400 block of Woodside Lane was called to help a staff member around 11 a.m.

The staff member said he was having a conversation with the 16-year-old student when the student made threats to shoot up the school and kill the staff member. The student was arrested and charged with a threat of death or bodily harm to a school staff member.

New Horizons is not a part of Newport News Public Schools.
