CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — The constant battle to fund local education was one of the themes during the State of the Schools Address in Chesapeake Wednesday.
10 On Your Side was there when the superintendent briefed the Chamber of Commerce on how the public school system is operating. He said it’s one of the best in the region when it comes to arming students and teachers with technology. He also talked about the tough decision to do more with less.
“We lost 30 to $40 million in state funding. We have adjusted slowly to that, using federal stimulus funds and attrition to preserve the dollars and keep people working,” said Dr. James T. Roberts, Chesapeake City Public Schools Superintendent.
A number of schools in the system have won regional, state and national awards for their performances this year.
