Man charged in malicious assault

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News man has been charged in the malicious assault of two women Last week.

Last Monday around 9:15 p.m., police responded to the 13200 block of Aqueduct Drive for a call about a disorderly person, according to Lou Thurston with Newport News Police. At the scene, a 23-year-old Hampton woman and a 43-year-old Newport News woman told officers they arrived home to find Sergio Neal waiting for them.

They said Neal assaulted the 23-year-old victim, and when the older victim tried to stop him, he assaulted her as well. Then he allegedly got a can of mace or pepper spray from his vehicle and tried to spray the 23-year-old.

The victims were able to get inside the residence. Then the suspect drove his vehicle over curbs and through grass, damaging another vehicle.

On Friday around 8 a.m., police arrested 26-year-old Neal at Newport News City Jail, where he remains. He was charged with assault, including malicious injury by acid, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
