Driver charged in Suffolk crash

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A driver has been charged after being injured in a crash in Suffolk Tuesday morning.

Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk said the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. in the area of Route 58 and Route 10.

The investigation showed the vehicle was traveling east on Route 58 and tried to make a left turn onto Route 10. The driver continued onto the grassy median, then hit a sign and flipped several times, Klink said.

The driver and only occupant of the vehicle was ejected. He was taken to Sentara Obici Hospital and then flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He remains hospitalized with injuries that are not life-threatening.

The driver was been identified as 22-year-old Nicholas Scott Scheil of Windsor. Klink said he has been charged with reckless driving on a suspended license and that additional charges are pending.

The on-ramp from Route 58 to Route 10 was closed until 11:40 a.m.
