NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Officials chose to close a Norfolk middle school early Monday after the air conditioning system malfunctioned.

Elizabeth Mather with Norfolk Public Schools said Lafayette-Winona Middle School would release at 12:45 p.m. due to the malfunction. Parents were being notified by a reverse phone call.

Mather said crews hoped to have the system repaired so school could resume Tuesday. Tuesday morning, Mather said the air conditioning was fixed and students would return to their normal schedules.

This is the second school in less than a week to close early due to malfunctioning air conditioning in Norfolk.
