HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Officers in Hampton remembered fallen officers Monday as part of National Police Week.

National Police Week was established in 1962 by Pres. John F. Kennedy and designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day. Hampton held its own ceremony Monday at Honor Park.

The ceremony pays tribute to slain officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Those officers include Ralph Ghivizzani (1943), Mark Decuypere (1975) and Kenny Wallace (1994).
