Four charged for passing fake checks in OBX

NAGS HEAD, N.C. (WAVY) — Four people from Virginia were arrested and charged with passing fake travelers checks in the Outer Banks.

Police Chief Kevin Brinkley said the suspects hit several stores at the Tanger Outlet Center in Nags Head on Thursday.

Around 5:30 p.m., Nags Head police responded to the shopping center when someone there reported the group. Officers arrived and were able to find the suspects. They also recovered fake checks and merchandise worth about $500, which had been purchased with the checks.

The following suspects were taken into custody on the following charges:

  • Ashley Coy, 23, of Richmond was charged with three counts of obtaining property by false pretense.
  • Juan Holden, 35, of Henrico was charged with aiding and abetting a felony.
  • Michael Jefferson, 22, of Sandston was charged with obtaining property under false pretense.
  • Jerry Washington, 36, of Richmond was charged with two counts of obtaining property by false pretense.
