CNU takes down Wesleyan 8-5, wins Virginia Beach regional

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The Christopher Newport University softball team is moving on to the NCAA Super Regionals, after defeating Hampton Roads foe Virginia Wesleyan 8-5 in the Virginia Beach regional championship on Sunday.

The Captains (38-6) took an early 6-0 lead, while a valiant comeback effort from the Marlins fell just short. CNU freshman catcher Karlee Holzbach belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to start the scoring, while sophomore pitcher Krista Lewis preserved the win, giving up just one earned run off five hits in the final five innings of action.

The Captains move on to face Salisbury in a best-of-three series that starts May 16.
