Two rescued from cruise ship off NC coast

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) – A Coast Guard crew from Elizabeth City rescued two people from a cruise ship early Sunday.

According to a news release from the Coast Guard, a 25-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman were medevaced from the Carnival Splendor about 135 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras when they got sick. Watchstanders received the call for help around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

A crew was dispatched aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and an HC-130 Hercules early Sunday from Elizabeth City to help. Two people were hoisted into the helicopter and taken to New Hanover Medical Center in Wilmington. Both were reported to be in stable condition.
