NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A man was shot in the chest Sunday after a fight in Newport News, and detectives say the man who did it turned himself in Tuesday evening.
Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department said the shooting happened around 2 p.m. in the 300 block of Wesley Pond Court, where the victim got into an altercation with the suspect outside an apartment. The suspect allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired multiple rounds, shooting the 22-year-old man in the chest.
Detectives identified the suspect as 21-year-old Daniel Lewis King, Jr. and obtained warrants charging him with malicious assault and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
King was taken into custody at police headquarters after turning himself in around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday. Thurston said he will be taken to the Newport News City Jail.
Thurston said the victim knows the suspect.
