NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – No one was hurt after a vehicle crashed into a Newport News fast food restaurant Saturday afternoon.

Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department said a pickup truck was in line at the Chic-Fil-A drive through, located near Patrick Henry Mall around 3 p.m. Police said the driver apparently stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake, and attempted to swerve to avoid hitting the car in front of him.

Thurston said the pickup truck hit the car and ran up onto the curb, crashing into the restaurant.

Some people inside the Chic-Fil-A were hit by flying glass, but were not badly hurt. One person was taken to the hospital to be check out.

The driver of the truck was not charged.

Thurston said the restaurant drive through was able to stay open, but the interior dining area was closed until it can be made safe.
