SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Police have charged a 22-year-old man with filing a false police report after officers say he lied about a robbery to get out of a DUI.
Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk told WAVY.com Brandon Anthony Stephens of Suffolk was charged Thursday in connection to an incident from Tuesday.
Just after midnight Tuesday, Stephens told police he had been assaulted and his vehicle was stolen as he left a restaurant on North Main Street.
Klink said investigators interviewed him again and further investigation determined Stephens actually crashed his vehicle, which was found in a field off Murphy’s Mill Road.
“He had lied to officers to avoid being charged with DUI,” Klink said.
